Deskins is a 21-year-old marketing student at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and enjoys recreational swimming in her free time.

"When I was younger, bodies of water intrigued me," explains Deskins. "It was also perhaps my love for dolphins that really sparked my interest in learning how to swim. I was put in a summer league at the age of seven and have loved swimming ever since."

Deskins says she's inspired by her brother, who she considers a serious swimmer. Her biggest accomplishment in the sport is participating in championships with the Virginia Peninsula Swimming Union.

When it comes to training tips, Deskins says, "It is important to focus on all aspects of swimming. From starts to finishes, flip turns, technique, swimming is complex and intensive. Practicing proper stroke formation and increasing your cardio, ability will be extremely beneficial to one's success as a swimmer. Swimming is a great form of exercise when doing it just for fun, too!"
