In celebration of Bastille Day, I decided to go for a long road run. Perfect morning running weather in Richmond, VA the temperature was a cool 69 degrees around 7-9AM and the weather was supposed to be the same by the time I got back home from the office.
The Morning:
After a quick workout consisting of abs and free weights, I walked down to the American Cigar building for hot tea. Back at my loft, I made myself a quick breakfast consisting of an omelet with onions, cheese, tomatoes, and one bacon strip. Orange juice along with my daily supplements consisting of Omega 3, Fish Oil, Men’s Health One-A-Day, Vitamin D and extra calcium. Then it was off to work.
Applause for no traffic on 64 after leaving the office at five, I got home, changed, and was on the road about 630PM. I did stretch for about five minutes, swung the arms, cracked the knuckles and last minute toe touches before jetting off with the music and sunlight in my face.
The Work Out:

I decided to map my run with Google Maps. By walking this run, it would be about 3 hours and 32 minutes. Fortunately, I was able to run this in about one hour without being hit by cars and other obstacles. I started at my residence at 2222 East Cary Street, ran upwards E Cary to Main St, continued through the VCU campus, and made my way to Boulevard. I then ran through Carytown down to Ellwood Thompson’s and then back to Carytown. At S. Boulevard and W. Cary, I made my way up the museum district to Monument Avenue. Bolting through Monument on the sidewalks, I went straight onto Franklin toward the Jefferson Hotel. The legs were still good and I decided to turn into their cobblestone lot, which by the way The Jefferson finally put potted plants and a sign that discourage drivers from entering to go onto Main St. I headed south to Adams and East Cary Street and it was smooth sailing from there. It was a smooth decline from third and E. Cary and even better running through Shockoe Slip. Then it was flat back to 25th and down around again to 14th before making it back to my loft.
It was a great run and I did it all for Bastille Day! Thanks to my iPod, which I need to update, I found myself constantly changing tunes and playing Taylor Swift on repeat. Yeah, I am lame, but hey, I probably burnt 1000 calories and I felt good after the run. It was nice to soak in the hot tub right after.
It was Bottoms Up for dinner a veggie burger and cheese fries. Then I passed out. Another day, looking good to log in another 10 miles today.
Gearing up for my next event, my first 5K event this year will be the Pony Pasture 5K. Find the information here.
