Day 2 of my 10-day “intense diet and training discipline” before the Riverrock Events and Carytown 10K (May 15- May 17, 2009).

I jinxed myself and got sick, and no - it is not the H1N1 Swine Flu (thank God), but apparently, there is an allergy/cold bug going around that lasts about 48/72 hours also known as a minor head cold.  I am feeling a bit better today and try to resume the workout routine after work this afternoon.  I thought it was a mild case of breathing in too much Lysol sanitizer at the fitness center on Monday. I was stuck in bed wheezing and sleeping away the sickness unable to hit the treadmill and weights.  Aside, it was Cinco de Mayo and I did manage to take part in some celebration and shenanigans.  I am still young and “partying” and sickness is not a stranger to my friends and me.  Besides the sickness, weather in Richmond, VA has also affected training.  It is as if the cities of Seattle and London gave birth to a monsoon and stuck pins in a voodoo doll to create a week of rain in the city.  The weather calls for scattered thunderstorms the rest of the week; I am crossing my fingers that it stays far away.

May is going to be an exciting month for runners and the city of Richmond. I am pumped up about running three consecutive running races in three days. I can certainly say I will be working extremely hard training and maintaining a well balanced diet before the May 15-17 events. I am not looking to win the gold medal and a PR would be great, but rather enjoy what Richmond running is and enjoying this experience with my two fraternity brothers, which is our first time participating in a three day event. We are looking forward sharing this memorable experience and exciting time. Here is the breakdown of the upcoming event races that will be taking place in my new hometown of Richmond, Virginia.
