So, I "bit the bullet" and signed up for a 5k on March 27.
Yes, that is only two weeks away.
Yes, I'm still working on the C25k program - complete with repeating Week 4 to make sure I can get through it so I don't hurt myself in later weeks.
Yes, I'm a little nuts!
Actually, I don't think I'm nuts. I think signing up for a new race is smart. Its good motivation and I have something to focus on. Now that I know I can actually run, and I can finish a race without the aid of a stretcher, I am looking forward to watching my time and my stamina improve.
This past Monday I ran another session of the Week 4 intervals for C25k.
Namely:
- Run 3 minutes - Walk 90 seconds
- Run 5 minutes - Walk 2 1/2 minutes.
- Repeat
Last week, though I made it through the workouts, I never could quite finish the last set of 5 minute runs. So, I opted to repeat the workout this week to make sure I could finish.
On the aforementioned Monday, I was able to complete all the intervals without taking a break - granted, at a slower pace. So, I opted to finish out the 5k just to see how I could do. Not only did I manage to run a couple more intervals, but I finished at about 50 minutes. This was a full 5 minutes less than my practice run back in September.
I guess Practice does make perfect -- or at least make improvements!
