This past weekend, I went down to Charlottesville VA to visit my BFF. The same weekend, we did a 5k together in her neighborhood, which contains lots of hills. The race course itself was mostly on the golf cart paths in the neighborhood, which equated to more, shorter hills than if the course were set along the main roads.

I was pleased that, despite the fact I walked the majority of the course due to the elevations and slick pavement (race was early morning so the deRead More...

Next Race....

Must be nice weather, my posts are far and few between!

June 5th saw my third race. The morning started really stormy - I wasn't even sure they were going to have the race, but I'm glad I stuck it out.

I didn't run nearly as much as I thought I would - it got hot and muggy pretty fast once the sun finally came out. However I had a couple of little accomplishments.... I ran up the only hill on the course, and managed to run more on the last half of the race than ever beforeRead More...

It seems like running has become more than a sudden spur to try and keep myself from getting fat.

When I am really anxious, I find that running keeps me sane.

When I am happy, it seems by running I find a way to express.

Really lame way of thinking about it, but whatever.

Today I feel like I am running on empty.

My gas tank is empty, too.

I had to scrounge for change, and managed to get $3.00 to give myself a gallon of gas.

Maybe I should run tRead More...

This was a good week and a good start to a more determined schedule.

I did three gym workouts, one walking the other two working on Week 3 intervals for the C25k training program. Thought my time is still in the 17:00 mark for the treadmills, I'm happy with the fact that I was able to complete 3 minutes of running for each workout.

Today I went out to a local neighborhood (my streets are too dangerous to run, and the park nearby has too many big hills) to run.

After a bit of a hiatus due to scheduling and life changes, I'm back in the saddle (so to speak) and more determined than ever.

Its really good to step back and re-evaluate your life from time to time. I find that we tend to take the wrong things seriously, and it serves to be a detriment to our entire being. The short story is that I was getting too stressed about the wrong things. Something as silly as a bad workout would send me into a funk of self-evaluation. Not good. I'm determineRead More...

I've been struggling a bit lately to stay on task not only with my training, but specifically with my diet. Starting a new job where I really haven't had a chance to get things organized and settled in has hindered my "normal" work routine, so I haven't taken in any of the snack I keep on hand. Consequently, I've fallen to the eating out trap and made poor choices.

My BFF, who lives in VA, has been wonderful.

So, its been a while since I posted last. I managed to make it through my first 5k of the season, with decent results...

48:00 !

Though its almost a full 4 minutes slower than my last race, I'm happy with the results for the following reasons:

1. I'd been allergic and very stuffy for the previous two weeks - no running.

2. The course was much hillier than what I was used to and the roads sandy from winter.

3. I missed most of my scheduled workouts, I didn't eat well...etc.

Isn't it interesting that its so easy to fall back into old habits and so hard to start new ones?

One would think that, with all the resolve with which we tackle new routines and self-improvement projects, that we would crush the old routines and habits easily.
